About Leanne Beattie

You know those nerdy people who read Shakespeare for fun? I’m one of them.

I started writing poetry anGdMJrRHQd short stories as a kid and got really serious about my fiction in my twenties. A stay-at-home mom at the time,
I applied to be a freelance writer for the Owen Sound Sun Times, the big newspaper in my area. With a population of only 20,000, Owen Sound, Ontario was just a small town, but they were the biggest gig around.

The editor gave me the job based on my short story samples and I started covering court news, local events and anything interesting in Hanover, where I lived at the time. My first assignment: writing about the upcoming homecoming celebration, a weekend-long event. It was my job to visit the BBQ, the parade, the book fair – anything on the agenda – and write an article about it.

The only problem? I had no clue how to write for a newspaper. I’m always up for a challenge, so I dissected a few articles and figured out how to do it. I must have done okay because my article was published with only minor edits.

Fast forward a couple of years and I’m looking for a full-time job. With newspaper tear sheets in hand, I got a communications role at a meat-packing association in Guelph, Ontario where I wrote the member newsletter and all the marketing materials.

I quickly moved to marketing roles at several high-tech companies in Waterloo, Ontario. I eventually landed in financial services where I worked as a marketing communications specialist for two major insurance companies.

And now I’d like to help you connect with your customers.

I’m located near London, Ontario, Canada and work with clients in both Canada and the United States, typically without needing to meet the client in person. Although I do love sushi and won’t say no if you’d like to get together to discuss your project over a meal.

By the way, I never gave up on the fiction. I self-published a Young Adult novel and I’m currently working on a crime novel.
